Redhat Enterprise itu ada 3 komponen, CMIIW 1. Binary Redhat enterprise 2. Trademark (Logo, kata2 Redhat) didalam binary Redhat Enterprise 3. Updates, Support. Jadi kalau pakai Redhat Enterprise itu harus bayar per server per tahun. Redhat tidak menyediakan Binary Redhat Enterprise untuk didownload bebas, tapi source code disediakan (sesuai aturan GPL) Kalau tahun ke 2 ngak bayar ya melanggar item no 2, walaupun katakanlah ngak butuh item no.3. Karena item no 2 ada didalam item no 1, maka otomatis item no 1 ngak boleh dipakai kalau ngak bayar. Makanya keluar yang namanya Fedora (ngak ada trademark Redhat, Cmiiw) Tapi source code item no 1 wajib disediakan oleh Redhat karena GPL. Nah oleh komunitas di download sourcecode item no 1, terus dikeluarkan item no.2 dari source codenya terus di compile sendiri jadi contohnya seperti Centos. saya pernah posting ini sebelumnya, saya copykan lagi. Emang urusan lisensi itu bikin puyeng, harus hati2 sekali bacanya. Menurut pengertian saya, jelas sekali Redhat Enterprise adalah sistim sewa/tahun/server. Jadi satu kesatuan antara Software GPL, Trademark dan support, updates. Ngak bisa dipretelin satu2/ketengan hehehe. Jangankan ngak bayar sama sekali, ngak bayar di tahun ke-2 saja sudah illegal. Illegal bukan karena melanggar GPL, tapi Illegal karena melanggar/memakai Trademark Redhat. Walaupun katakanlah ngak butuh support dan updates dari Redhat. Kalau mau yang seperti Redhat Enterprise terus mau yang "gratis" dan support sendiri, ya pakai Centos.
