Hi,
I don't quite understand what the problem is that some people have with
the mailinglist. You can
1 - have it delivered by mail to your own account
2 - read it with an NNTP reader via gmane
3 - read it on the web using gmane
4 - search it using gmane
I don't see what is missing here, to be honest.
I especially like NNTP access, it is much more time efficient than having
to visit a forum every day. If there would be only a forum I would
definitely _not_ read it. I really think web forums are quite outdated,
and many people now prefer news or news-like access through RSS feeds.
Forum:
- groups post per forum type (Users, Developers, Next Version, Custom
components announcements)
- presents posts in much prettier and understandable way (by coloring pieces
od code for eg.)
- have search capability integrated (otherwise we should have "Mailing List
Guide" link beside Mailing List link, explaining where one can search the
list and other missing stuff)
- when you change PC you're working on, posts are stil there; you're not
dependent upon your mail box
- shows nicely number of posts for each thread, which one is hot etc...
And one more thing, 70% od developers never heard about GMANE. It's a bit
lame thing when you have to point people to some other stuff out there for
required functionality. They want to have as much of it at one place.
Actually, I accept different opinions of people like you. What I don't like
is that you already have legacy advantage that makes people like me still
stuck here and not being able to use forum only, because nobody will go
there when all discussions are already here. Spring community new it also,
and they did it by closing mailing list.
