I am working on Old Ebenezer, Lonesome Midnight Waltz and an old time tune called Two Bits. Exploring things in Dm. Have been messing with Old Eb..for a good while, some parts of it are working and some improving so maybe soon...there. See the need for better tremolo on LMW, have the fingerings and ideas nearly set..maybe. As for Two Bits, am using that tune to explore Mrs. Haley's method, and other ideas as the tune lends itself to that and alternate fret positions, looking at ways to make it sound real pretty, etc.
Also have left one band, maybe just a long rest, don't know yet, stayed in a limited way with another and have joined a mandolin quartet. The quartet work is very satisfying, I can express myself, keep up too. Its so fun to play with other mandolins and mess around with parts and voices, rhythms etc. We play so far, original pieces written by our leader Steve Gadd. He thinks we will be ready to perform several things by Oct. It sounds good when we practice together. Spring is coming on (at least they say so), pruning fruit trees, harvesting winter crops in small veg. patch and enjoying watching the leaf-buds swell on the trees, in anticipation of summer.... Might go to Europe next Sept/Oct. WOW!! Hoping to do bluegrass workshop in April at our national festival ..WOW! linda On Aug 25, 5:09 am, sgarrity <[email protected]> wrote: > I went back to work so not as much time for mandolin music.
