I am not sure but suspicion that the C natural would fit with using
the tune in a contra dance, as there is a custom there to do that and
go to heavy, sometimes minor chord progression along with; often in
the B part. If so, then preferences to use that idea will go to those
who enjoy the contra dance scene. One could have a few rounds each
way to mix it up I suppose.

So far I am enjoying the c# way. One could also change the G string
to an A, but I like the slide to the D on the G string in standard
tuning that is offered in the A part, for me it takes the hand to a
great position up the neck to play the next bit and there are chances
to slide and play double string A and E notes here and there, likley
double stops too, which I like. Again personal preference. This is,
for me where one can set to tune to suit, as they do region by region,
band by band. Likely some play a note filled version and others a
more spare take on the tune note-wise.
just what I think and it might not be worth a lot.
