I am on build 128 with filtering turned on. With inbox selected, and
TB partially hidden behind another application, I can send myself
email from another program e.g. Gmail web. I have a test filter
(filtering  by  subject)  and  the mail shows up in the target folder.
Perhaps, you can now turn on automatic filters in v128.

I have also successfully tried this with a content filter.

BTW, my email server has these capabilities showing IDLE :
