Normally its only drivers that are really OS specific, and occasionally if MS remove functionality do some features stop working. Such as Win 95 you have flash an icon 1 way, in everything else you can use a much simpler method. If other text fields are showing it would suggest something else isnt right, but it could be OS, someone with access to ME will need to try recreate it, perhaps a screen shot for them will help.
