Since you had/have a variety of DEF files it seems to me that you have
unneeded/unwanted clutter. It is possible your Registry also has some
of this stuff. Official releases of MSIs should be stable and perform
the necessary clean-up. History proves otherwise. The management
practices I described are used for most programs I use, especially
Open Source programs.

I agree only _if_ you are moving from an official release MSI to
another official MSI release _and_ you haven't been using beta
versions between the installs. This is the only way you can prove
anything for a regular customer since this is the pattern they will
follow.
