Sorry, in my TB! directory resides a file called txt2html.regexps
which does exactly this. When I view a mail with an abbreviation, I
hover over it and the full text is shown. Somebody on a German list
created it, so there are a lot of German abbreviations. I can send it
to you (or to the list, if interested), so you can dissect it and
adapt to English.
