At first, I though it was the first address. Then I found a message in
my "bounces" folder that showed it as the last address. The whole
thing is a plain text message created by the postmaster with reported
addresses "whimmed" in at design time. Many are based on a default
version of the message but there are no guarantees.
The biggest thing here is that it really needs the human touch. A
receiving server may have a configuration tweak that makes it fail for
a day then it gets put right again. It wouldn't really be fair to
auto-remove members whose ISPs are having a bad hair day, would it?
Then there's the fact that you get one bounce per outgoing message so
there duplicates to contend with.
Then there's the temporary failure types of "mailbox full" or "quota
exceeded" which, if they become continuous, can indicate an unused
mailbox.
IMHO it's a non-starter.
