You are absolutely wrong. Airport security is in fact thoroughly lax in
the US. The FAA has tested security by having agents attempt to smuggle
(fake) guns onto domestic flights. Reportedly, in two-thirds of cases
they were successful.
By some reports the animals that perpetrated these attacks were armed
only with knives or box-cutters. If so, they probably had no trouble at
all getting their weapons through "security".
