Hi all,
I had suggested earlier that using the alt+arrow buttons for scrolling
through a message was too cumbersome and it would be a lot nicer if one
needed to use only the arrow buttons, pretty much as you would do with
your browser or any html formatted message that you may have to read
using TB! I was told that one of the problems would be that the
usership would not be able to select text in the message view window
using the keyboard and I conceded this, because you may notice that you
can select text in html messages in TB! only when using the mouse.
Again Agent provides an interesting twist to things. I scroll through
messages in Forte' Agent using only the arrow buttons which makes
things very easy.
N for next unread message
U for previous message in list
D for next message in list
Up and down arrows for true scrolling through messages. A real beauty
of one finger/hand usability experience. It really rocks.
Selecting text in the message view window is interesting. This is
achieved with the almost never used scroll-lock button. Hit the scroll
lock button and the cursor acts as it does in TB! and you may select
text. They clearly have the priority where difficulty is concerned
since I'm sure that we spend more time scrolling through messages than
selecting text blocks from them.
What I'm suggesting is that TB! developers implement the scroll-lock
key so that when activated it makes scrolling possible with the arrow
keys without having to press that alt key at the same time. When you
deactivate it the cursor becomes active as usual and scrolling is still
achievable with the alt+arrow keys. This will certainly make scrolling
through messages a lot easier and scrolling through a message is
certainly a smoother experience than 'space barring' through it. With
each page down, you have to reassert where you were at before you hit
the space bar.
