This is for outgoing mail. When you bind the attachment "only when
sending" and you change something in the attachment file, the changed
file is sent. If you do not check this box, the attachment will be the
the orignal file, i.e. before the change. I tried it out. I did not
try what happens if you actually delete the file after attaching it,
but would expect a similar behaviour.

I think this only applies for incoming mail. But I am not sure myself.
