Right, the open source model is to release the product early so that it
can get in use so that bugs can be found and fixed.
Sad that you'd not advocate the open source model for a "think like this"
considering the grand majority of the servers that are the true workhorses of
the internet are mostly open source.

The #1 CGI language, Perl.
Other popular CGI languages in use. Python, C (gcc), php3, php4.
The #1 email server, Sendmail.
Other popluar email servers, Exim, Postfix, SMail, QMail.
The #1 FTP server, wu-ftpd.
Other popular FTP server, proftpd.
Open Source, all.
If open source is good enough to run the internet, it is good enough for
the paltry task (in comparison) of accessing it.
