I tried deleting it so I could save the world a few headers worth of
bandwidth, and was unable to.

I'm against it to.  If anything, an option to turn such a thing on or
off.  It would be way more inconvenient for me to have to choose every
time before replying than it is to choose only when I want to reply to
a different address.
