Morning Tom Plunket,

i think you meant:

Ctrl+] next unread nothing next unread

But I do agree this is another inconsistency that should be fixed.

> Up/Down next message next line next folder

:-D This *is* consistent behavior, as up/down always moves the cursor up/down
in the window that currently has focus :-P

Knowing which pane has focus is less a matter of remembering than *seeing*.
You'll usually notice quite quickly by highlights ;-) But then, more
consistent keybindings for navigation was just what I was getting at. Even
with configurable keybinds like in as of yet unavailable v2, a consistent
standard interface can save a lot of work/time.

Here's how I organize my message reading (proven quite effective for me,
considering I read every message I get anyway. Dunno about your situation :-)

. I put the focus on the message list.
. In mailing lists, I first collapse all threads.
. I press the key for next unread message and start reading it.
. [I have the "mark message as unread" set to 2 sec, for the rare message that
goes under that time, I use Ctrl+M to mark it as read.]
. I use space to page through the message
. If the next in the thread isn't unread, I go to next unread.

For normal correspondence, I just always go to the next unread since following
threads usually isn't necessary. For this, sorting by created or received time
in descending order is good enough if you want to page through with Space bar.

Hey everybody! Share your favorite mail reading methods for your situation!

I fear not... This has been discussed a little in the past. A key to activate
quick search would allow for more flexibility with normal keys. I guess we'll
 have to wait for v2...

 * ah, here's another inconsistency BTW:
[messsage composing; reply window]

                header original message
                edit message view edit

Tab focus on next field focus on next field insert tab
/Tab in header edit sets the focus on the next header field, then original
     message view.

Ctrl+Tab nothing focus on next field focus on next field

Shift+Tab focus on last field focus on last field focus on last field
/Shift+Tab sets the focus only on last used header field, then goes back to
           message edit.

/ While Shift+Tab offers a consistent way of "backtabbing" through the
fields, there seems no way to go forward in a similar manner with one
     keybinding. This should be fixed.
