ILOVEYOU is a "traditional" worm in that it required people to click on
the attachment for it to run. However, the Bubbleboy worm did not require
that action to be taken. Because of Microsoft's use of the IE HTML rendering
engine inside Lookout! it is possible to send a message to someone containing
HTML which envokes JScript/ActiveX portions upon /reading/, even in the
preview pane.
So for ILOVEYOU, no, it did not spread automatically. However, it is
possible. Thanks Microsoft. I believe I wrote a more detailed explanation of
all of this just last month, might want to check the archives.
