If that's your concern, then it's not enough to empty the trash
folder. You have to compress it, otherwise they can be easily
recovered using the [Folder] [Browse Deleted Messages] function.

Then it's still not enough. You have to compress the original folder
(the folder from which those messages were deleted) and the Inbox
(if they weren't deleted from the Inbox), and every other folders
they have been to, for one can easily retrieve those messages using
the same [Folder] [Browse Deleted Messages] function as well.

The way TB's message base works is similar to a typical database,
where a deleted record is only marked as such and is physically
removed only when the database is packed (compressed). The only way
to completely eliminate the trace of a deleted item is to empty the
trash folder and to compress all folders. For TB to do that
automatically is not very practical, IMO.

I do understand your concern and it's still nice if an option is
made available to delete a message directly without sending it to
the trash folder. After all, many users know how to recover things
from the trash folder, but not many are savvy enough to use the
[Folder] [Browse Deleted Messages] function.
