 The filter action "Delete message" does not move the message to the
 trash.  Perhaps you could create a Colour Group for items to be
 deleted, then create a manual filter with filter string 'e' to be
 found anywhere and under advanced, the message has to have the colour
 group 'Deleted'.  Just mark your messages with the 'Delete' colour
 group.  Then every once in a while, you can refilter your Inbox to
 delete your messages.  Note that there are still the concerns that
 Ming-Li pointed out.  Note also that you have to remember to refilter
 your folders every now and then.  As with any active task, this can
 be forgotten from time to time, so it is not an ideal solution.

 Of course, for the amount of work involved with my suggestion, you
 could just as easily right click on your Trash folder and select
 'Empty Folder.'
