No. I think Ctrl-(Numpad)* expands and Alt-(Numpad)* collapses all
threads, but there is no auto-expand.

Seems your sig delimiter got screwed up as this didn't get chopped.
and yes, I too wondered if that bug report should go to the beta list,
as I've never seen that bug. ;)
