A template can offers both a "structure" for a reply or
e-mail, or a standard text. You can use macros in such
templates that will automatically load certain data
For instance, I use a template for my replies that looks
like this:

This template takes the date, time and sender from a mail
that I reply to and thus comes up with a line that looks
like this:

One can do rather intricate stuff with templates; esp. when
combined with filters. For instance, if you run a mailing
list, you can filter on the line <subscribe mailinglist> in
incoming mail, filter it to the folder where you keep all
mutations, a standard reply with a certain text (such
as a subscribe confirmation, the list rules etc) using a
template, queue that mail and have it sent.
In this example, the only thing that _you_ still have to
do is put the name of the sender on the list of subscribers,
but considering that TB can execute line commands, I take it
that this can be done to.
