Thanks for the suggestions. I logged into the mail server via telnet,
did a LIST twice and compared the printouts (150 mails). Both listings
were identical.
I then loaded Outlook Express, set up an account with the same
settings (leave messages on server, delete after 2 days) and
downloaded the 150 mails that were on the server. When I checked mail
again right after the first operation. Outlook didn't download any old
messages again - no dupes here.
I guess the problem might actually be related to The Bat! One more
thing of note is that the program doesn't re-download ALL mails that
are on the server every time I check mail, just a subset (that keeps
growing). The problem started happening at some point and all mails
that I got after that first email that kept getting duped are now
reappearing in my inbox. I THINK it might have started happening
after I setup the filters, but I'm not entirely sure.
Any other ideas or more information I could collect? :)

AGSAA> differencies it clearly indicates that POP3 server you're using needs
AGSAA> some maintenance or additional tweaking.
AGSAA> The first line in your telnet log probably will also contain the POP3

AGSAA> +OK QPOP (version 3.0.2) at hostname starting. <79106.978566438@hostname>
AGSAA> This ID can help you resolve this issue by consulting the appropriate
