I've noticed something similar on one particular account of mine since
upgrading to 1.48f.  I wonder if something changed in TB such that it
doesn't handle poorly configured POP3 servers as well as before.

Do you have any other POP3 accounts with different providers?  Do they
exhibit the same behaviour?

Did you upgrade to 1.48f at about the same time?
