Right.  If you don't reformat, the recipient is likely to end up with
something that looks like this

zzz abc
>def ghi jkl mno qrs tuv wzy zzzabc def ghi jkl mno qrs tuv wzy
zzz


instead of how it should look

>abc def ghi jkl mno qrs tuv wzy zzzabc def ghi jkl mno qrs tuv wzy
>zzzabc def ghi jkl mno qrs tuv wzy zzzabc def ghi jkl mno qrs tuv wzy
>zzzabc def ghi jkl mno qrs tuv wzy zzz
