Many of the default templates contain macros, so I believe that you've
not been looking for the right thing / in the right place.

If the templates affecting you are in either your address book or your
folder then keeping either of the address book or the message may
perpetuate the problem.
You have to check the Account | Properties | Templates | Reply
settings. That's where the quote style default is selected. Be sure
it's the properties of the account you're using.
Read the text in the template itself. That's location one for the
macro to appear.
Now go to the folder from which you are issuing replies. Open the
Folder Properties. Click the "Reply" tab and check the text there for
macros.
Now go to the address book. Look for all entries with the address in
question. Open the properties for each entry, click the "Reply" tab
for each of these and check the text there too.
