Hello Eduard,
Historians believe that Sun, 15 Jul 2001 at 19:11 GMT +0200 was when,
Eduard Fabra [EF] typed the following:
EF> Wouldn't it be nice to have some macros run when
EF> you send or put your message in the outbox?
That could be interesting, but I don't really see how it could be
implemented. If TB evaluated any macros in your text after sending,
then you wouldn't be sure what it was you were sending. For example,
suppose we were talking about the %DATE macro. How would TB know that
I wanted the string "%DATE" and not the actual date inserted?
I suppose there could be a slightly different syntax to the original
template for the delayed ones. Perhaps %MACRO could refer to macros
that are to be evaluated now, and $MACRO could refer to macros that
are to be evaluated on sending. But again, how would TB's editor
display the information to be evaluated?
EF> Would that be very difficult to implement?
I think so. See above.
EF> How would you like it? Any other ideas for useful ones?
It is an interesting idea, but perhaps it would be better to have
outgoing filters that could affect the messages before sending the
message. You could use such a filter to modify your text as you
suggested.
EF> Before sending this suggestion to RitLabs, I'd like to know I'm
EF> not talking nonsense.
You should send it in. RITLabs has been known to come up with far
better implementations than any of the list members could expect.
