This happens while TB is busy importing. *However* using MD3.6a (a hybrid 3.5, pre v4) the DELE stick and the message is gone. Perhaps it is a V4 / V5 (is it out yet?) issue that the DELE is not taken seriously without a QUIT. Seems a bit silly to me.
