Please do note that both the pop3 and smtp protocols weren't devised
with the idea of messages of more than 1 MB, so don't be surprised to
encounter problems beyond that border.

The problem can be worsened by allowing to many simultaneous
connections (on the server or the workstation) or by using real-time
virus scanning. And of course by running multiple applications on the
server.

IMO a better way to distribute files is a shared or public directory
on a file-server, would be way better than sending large files by
mail.
