All that you receive when you download the beta, is a single
compressed file to replace thebat.exe that resides in your TB!
installation directory. It's just a matter of closing TB! and

I've lost mail only once and that was during the transition to the new
mailbase format (you can see that this transition would be a high risk
one). That was over a year ago and I tend to try most betas. I had
backed up at the time so I was OK.
