I don't think I understand what you're saying here. This is how I
normally reply to a message; first I highlight the text I want to
reply to (with the mouse) and then I press my middle-mouse button. I
don't know what's wrong with that, but I think a it's very quick way
to just quote the relevant parts of a message.
