Hi, Thomas.

1. Nicked nicknames

TF> Options / Preferences / System / Autocomplete.

Yes, I've checked that and chosen "Default address book only".
Nicknames work most of the time, but not all of the time, even with
Ctrl+. As I said, I haven't yet spotted what needs to happen for a
nickname to work the first time, every time. I was hoping another user
might have discovered this. If you never, ever have any problems with
nicknames on your system, then I need to remove this item from the
list.

2. Hidden addresses... not

You skipped this one in your reply... can you reproduce this anomaly?

3. Editable header fields... not?

TF> The ones you can edit are displayed as editable in the editor, if
TF> you have activated them in the editor's View command.

The editable fields are displayed the same way as the field titles,
which are not editable, until you click on them. I would expect the
header fields to be presented the same way as the message body, with
black text on a white background or in some other distinctive manner.
I can think of no other program that displays editable fields with the
same foreground/background/text colors as the surrounding screen area.
Perhaps this can best be called a "cosmetic anomaly," but I suspect it
confuses more than just this user.

4. Browser append appendage

AA> Since append creates a file if none exists, the Browse button should
AA> permit navigation to the desired directory and accept any filename.

TF> This is not a bug but an additional feature wish.

I don't agree with your interpretation, but we agree that this anomaly
is reproducible.

5. Two mailtos

TF> It results in one message and no problem, if TB is already running.

Yes, this is what I said.

TF> If I turn off TB and then click on a mailto: link, it results in
TF> one message and one error dialog: "Your MAPI request handler is
TF> not correctly installed". IE 5.5.

I never see an error when TB! is off and a mailto link is clicked. (IE
5.5 SP2 under W2K.) Perhaps if your error was resolved, you would see
the second message window I'm talking about.

Try using the registry entry I suggested. Does your error message
disappear? Does the mailto link still work if TB! is on or off?

6. Leaving the last attachment

AA> If a message contains several attachments and they are deleted by
AA> pressing the Del key, the last attachment can't be deleted. The
AA> message must first be moved to another folder.

TF> I cannot confirm this, as it works over here.

Please make sure you try this with a message you receive from an
external POP3 server, not one sent locally. If you cannot reproduce
this, I'd propose that I send you a message that behaves that way on
my system. If you can reproduce on your system, maybe we can find out
what's different about the message. If you can't reproduce, then I'll
take this item off the list and scratch my head. <g>

7. Getting to the bottom of the AB name display

TF> Wow, how many email addresses do you have under one AB entry? You
TF> know that you cannot access these address, right?

The first question is whether this anomaly is reproducible -- is it?

I put the FROM: addresses of my mailing list subscriptions in a
_single_ AB entry. One of my spam filters requires that a Sender's
e-mail address be found in the address book.

8. Underspec of the overlap

AA> There is no option to scroll a message with the space key or PgDn
AA> with single- or multi-line overlap.

TF> I don't understand this.

Open a long message. Note the last line displayed in the viewer
window. Press the space bar. The last line displayed is no longer
visible. If it was still visible, it would be called single-line
overlap.

Now press PgUp and go back to the beginnning. Note the last line
displayed in the viewer again. Press the PgDn key. The last line will
still be visible -- there is single-line overlap.

I phrased item 8 incorrectly. It should now read as follows:

----------
There is no option to scroll a message with the space key with single-
or multi-line overlap. Single-line overlap is provided by default if
PgDn is used instead of the space key. A single line of overlap helps
retain context while reading. This is so commonly employed by programs
that I consider this to be an anomaly rather than an enhancement.
----------

In IE 5.5 SP2 and Netscape 4.79, for example, the space bar and PgDn
both employ the same amount of overlap, which usually exceeds a single
line.

9. Just a pretty title

TF> Yeah, the message list doesn't refresh in that case. If you go to
TF> another folder and then back to this one, all will be fine.

A reproducible anomaly nonetheless. Thanks for confirming.

TF> A long-standing cosmetic bug (low priority).

Please remember that the anomalies were not listed in any priority
order.

10. Auto-saving save save save

TF> I remember this problem when I was still working the way you
TF> discribe.

I work this way. I think we agree that this anomaly is reproducible.
It's also *very* inconvenient, since I need to constantly clean up
after TB! in the attachments folder. No other program I've ever owned
since the early versions of MS Word has caused such a proliferation of
files.

11. Save message, lose data

TF> Another feature request, or an improvement suggestion rather.

I considered it also to be a simple improvement suggestion
("enhancement") until I lost data this week by accepting the default
answer at the first message box. I think we agree that this anomaly is
reproducible.

12. Favourites list unfavoured BCC

TF> Yes, confirmed bug.

I know. I'm the one that first reported it. ;-)

I count 5 anomalies that are, so far, confirmed as reproducible: 4, 9,
10, 11, 12.

Items 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 are still, well, open.

TF> I would really like you to change to individual mails during this
TF> thread (and other threads on which you participate)

Done, at least until the end of this thread, at least for all messages
_after_ this reply.

regards, Andy
