It seems that some of their servers (here: hardware) are configured
with newer software; they don't insert this separator item. It may
actually have to do with the TLD you use, i.e. co.uk was created later
than .de.

I use various addresses from GMX, mostly the one I take for this list
on .net, one is on .li, sitll another is .co.uk. Sometimes I see the
inserted "greater than", sometimes they leave my mail untouched.

To Nick: No, GMX has a tendency to not answer questions of that kind.
The last time I heard from them on this issue was some time ago and
hasn't been that satisfactory ("We see what we can do ...").
