Hi all,

I am new to the list, but have been looking at the TBUDL archive covering the issues of
transferring messages to Outlook Express, as well as the thread on
IMAP support in The Bat! I am a PC newbie, moving from Mac OS 9 to Win
2000 (and latest version of TB). My problem is that I have a lot of e-mails that I
can't part
with, that are on one of my Macs (software licenses with URL's and the
like for both PC and Mac). I have a Mail & News account (IMAP)
that I am using to transfer files from Mac to PC(that way I don't
loose the formatting or have to convert anything) and some have to go
into Outlook 97, so that I can sync them with my Handspring Visor,
using DataViz' Desktop to Go http://www.dataviz.com Likewise, some of
the e-mails from TB need to be transferred to Outlook Express, so that
I can import them into Outlook 97 and likewise sync with Desktop to
Go (which unfortunately only supports a few mainstream e-mail clients
like Netscape, Eudora and Outlook).

Mail and News closes operation on Feb. 28 Th. Hopefully I can find
another free IMAP provider, but I still have some fundamental
problems:

1) I can't transfer mail from TB to my IMAP account, because TB
doesn't have full IMAP support #¤%=@£$! This includes messages that I
downloaded to TB from my IMAP account, that need to be transferred to
Outlook 97.

2) Unlike the advise in the archive to export messages from TB and
change the .MSG extension to .eml this does not work (at least in OE
6). The only thing that happens when I drag a message file to a folder
is that I get a new message that pops up. If I could just get these to
import into OE, I could convert them into a format that Outlook 97 can
import.

3) Mail dispatch seems to be an undocumented feature in TB. Can anyone
enlighten me on how to use this feature?

4) While we are at it ,-) I often go back in my e-mails and re-edit
parts before I actually send them off. Isn't there an "auto wrap" or
"re-wrap selected" command in TB?

BTW, it seems to a PC newbie like myself, that despite e-mail (both
POP3 and IMAP4) being open standards, every e-mail producer seems to
be staking their claim to a bit of it by adding proprietary "features"
and file formats. TB doesn't seem to be any different with it's lack
of full IMAP support and maintaining a proprietary .TBB file format.
That doesn't make TB worse or better than any of the others, it just
makes the whole process of importing and exporting to and from e-mail
clients real hell. This could be helped by including the ability to
import or export in more file formats in TB.

"That is logic that even a chicken would understand." Danish witticism.
