I'm sure you have already done this, but when you used the
startup control panel, did you then do a full shut down, leave
for 30 seconds and then restart? Sometimes it makes a difference.

Otherwise, I can only think there is a conflict somewhere.
Unfortunately, I came to Windows after 15 years of Mac use and
went straight to Win2000, so anything to do with Win98 (which I
think you're running)I have no real clue.

One suggestion, similar to what the Doctor said when a patient
told him about a pain he got when he turned his neck ... don't
turn your neck ;-) Don't close TB!
