I had thought about the single keystroke but this doesn't seem to be limited to that. If I assign multiple keystrokes (alt-N as one example) it does the exact same thing. Just for kicks I swapped the Ctrl-[ and Ctrl-] keys from their default. Now when I am in the message window the keys do what I assigned them to. But, if I am in either of the other two windows I get the default assignment.
