Allie Martin wrote me off-list saying that what I so praised in Opera
(funcionality, eg. opening links in background via a keyboard
shortcut) can equally be found in Netcaptor. But as Shane comments...
really? Can anyone confirm whether Netcaptor

-- can zoom in & out of a page using the + and - keys (works for
pictures not only text)? Netcaptor uses IE engine so I'd be pleasantly
surprised to see it handle this as perfectly as Opera does.

-- understands mouse gestures?

-- shows you on every separate webpage that you're opening the speed
with which a particular page is loading, percentage of pictures/text
loaded? IE tells you none of this while Mozilla's data are sketchy.

-- is as fast as Opera? On my system, browsing with Opera is
perceptibly faster than browsing with IE. So wouldn't switching to
Netcaptor slow down my surfing?

Plus, Netcaptor is shareware while Opera is free. Its ad window is
negligible on a screen with high (1280x. or even less) resolution.
Yes, some webpages as of now do not perform well in Opera. It's
important to base one's assessment of Opera on the current version
(6.0x), it was a real breakthrough (though it introduced some new
bugs). Opera for Linux 6.0 was released for the first time a few days
ago and Linux people have been heard to comment favourably.
