Smart tabs are wonderful for creating ASCII tables. For example, in
this table:

COL 1          COL 2               COL 3
=============  ==================  ======================
Value 1.1      Value 1.2           Value 1.3
Value 2.1      Value 2.2           Value 2.3

Most times, to move to the next column, you just need to press Tab. TB
inserts as many spaces as required to get you to the start of the next
column. No hanging on the space bar (with possible misalignment) like
some other editors; no possibility that your tabs will render a
different width.
