I've been sending test messages from another account.  TB doesn't
recognize them as new when I have it set to use a secure connection,
but when I change the settings back to regular connection the messages
arrive immediately.

Ok, thanks, that's good to know.  So I guess the secure connections
options do nothing when you've selected IMAP4?  That is more than a
little confusing.
