Why would you need that with the TB plug-in? It's not belt and
braces, just the same check done twice but much less efficiently.

I'd say that you could safely disable the POP scanner for use with
TB and just enable the plug in. TB will automatically scan all
attachments, but only attachments (the only place a virus can hide
in a plain text mail client like this). The POP scanner scans all
mail - it's what's I'd call "an overhead".
