I am not sure about this. ISP = Internet Service Provider. The only
service I would provide in that case is SMTP service to myself. I
thought an ISP is a company that offers internet services to the
public, such as dial-up services.

Not so. You need to be connected while you are sending messages, and
until they are sent. That's all. (BTW this is the reason for me not to
run my own SMTP server: I'm on dial-up.)
