I have rediscovered that by selecting a previously read message, and
doing a Ctl U on it, it turns it back into a new message, which also shows
up as new on the ticker, as well as the account tree, and message folder.

Another thought is perhaps making a small customized wav file, uniquely
identifying that folder, which would automatically play when new mail
arrived in that folder, thereby having audio notification in lieu of
visual.

One feature I would like to see implemented is an adjunct to what you
mentioned previously. Let us say, for example, that mail is sorted by
threads, and new mail coming in, is added to the threads or as new topics,
which implies that the new mail is scattered throughout the message
folder, perhaps to a point where one cannot even see the new mail that has
arrived. This feature would be a key that takes you automatically to the
next unread message. I find this an extremely fast way to go through new
messages. Mutt, for example, uses the tab key (or any key mapped) for
this function.
