I'm assuming that the reason he doesn't just post to the list is that
some list-members are no-mail.

If that's the case, rather than sending the message in a way that
could be perceived as spam (by both the ISP & by anti-spam software),
the solution would be to go to the members' list on the yahoo group
page, sort the list by email delivery option, change those members who
are no-mail to "Special Announcements Only", then send out a special
announcement.
