In reply to Miguel's message '[SOT] The best filter for SPAM' on Sun, 15 Dec 2002 11:41:16 +0100 from [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
Miguel, (got ya name right this time ;-) MAU> A couple of weeks ago someone mentioned POPFile in this list and I MAU> decided to give it try. I installed it, trained it for a couple of MAU> days and it has been running for some 10 days with 99% accuracy, MAU> detecting spam (in different languages, BTW) that had gone MAU> undetected by the sum of the other schemes and with hardly any MAU> false positives. It's a beauty. Since your original post, I also have finally given PopFile a go - I have been meaning to for quite sometime, and thought today was too hot outside to do much else, so it seemed the perfect day to finally try it out. I must say, I too am impressed with the accuracy i seem to be achieving even after only a few hours of training, and 100 odd emails. Of course, as you would expect, not one email I have received since running PopFile has been spam... But I do wonder if I have chosen the most appropriate way to set up my buckets. As the majority of my mail is sorted based on the sender, I really only have two real buckets, 'legit_email' and 'spam'. It seemed to me that only two buckets might not provide enough statistical data, so I also decided to create a bucket for each mailing list. bringing my total to 5 buckets. It seems rather stupid to make a bucket for each sender, as the bat filters take care of that, and work/personal is already taken care of just based on the sender as well. So my real question, after all this, is what have you found to be the most appropriate bucket setup? Should I artificially create more buckets, or leave it at the minimum.. or am i missing the point entirely? or......... Also, am I just lucky, or over the last, say, month or so, has spam really slowed down. The last spam i received through my main account must have been early last week, and I haven't received any spam in either of my hotmail accounts for weeks either... Just lucky, or are other people noticing a similar occurrence... cheers! -- dan. e [EMAIL PROTECTED] w http://www.danhirning.com ________________________________________________ Current version is 1.62 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
