Hello Greg, On Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 7:29:59 PM you [GS] wrote (at least in part):
GS>>> Are all command line parameters for "TheBat.exe" documented in help GS>>> under "Advanced usage topics" | "Command line parameters"? >> Don't know, don't have a current English help file here. I'm using the >> (much better, btw) German help file, that lists all (at least I >> haven't missed one yet) of them. GS> Hmmmm, interesting comment. I've seen comments with regard to the help GS> file. These comments do not shed a positive light on the help file. Now GS> I don't know what the origin to these statements. I may start a debate GS> here, but I think it could be constructive. GS> Why do you state the German help file is much better when you don't have GS> one? OK, my comment was misleading. GS> Have you made comparisons in the past? Yes. That's what I was referring to. And as I haven't recently seen any announcement of a new, better, completer help file being distributed and nobody on TBUDL, TBOT or TBBETA wrote "Hey, I've found a new help file version" I assumed it's still the same file that's in the (complete installer) archive. And compared to the English .hlp file the German help file developed by the former German distributor and just revamped a few weeks ago is _much better_. Much more complete and available in .CHM format for _much easier_ navigation too. GS> Anyway my point is not to single your comment out, but to raise an issue GS> with regard to the help file. If certain language versions of the help GS> file are better than others, than are some of the negative comments in GS> the past about the help file due to the language conversion, or what? I guess you're right with this assumption. At least the German help file Dieter Hummel maintained I never heard any negative comments about. GS> Is the help file written for an experienced computer user where negative GS> comments originate from less experienced users? It simply was "incomplete" in the whole and incomplete in dealing with the topics in the past ... compared to the German one I use. That's no devaluation of the work put into it; it's only a statement somebody else made a better one. I for myself only need the help file as a reference manual, therefore I'm not the right one to really decide if the English .hlp file is "bad". I only see the German is more complete and therefore "better" from my PoV :-) GS> If target customer of V2 of TB is much broader than in the past, than GS> does this require a re-write of the help file to be more in-line with GS> the target customer? If no new has been written in the last 6 months a re-write is necessary in any case. Too much new features and functions. Change of menu structure, etc ... GS> When you made the comment on the help file and since there has been GS> recent discussions on V2 in TBBETA, I thought it appropriate to respond GS> to the potential issue of the help file. So maybe you should post a request about a rewritten help file on TBBETA too, for Stefan, Max or whoever being able to read and respond? -- Regards Peter Palmreuther (The Bat! v1.63 Beta/11 on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 1) Biggest security gap - an open mouth. ________________________________________________ Current version is 1.62r | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
