TB can be driven using IPC (Inter Program Communications) via a disk
file called TheBat.IPC. Commands can be written to this file by any
application and TB will read them and execute them.

R> should I have a file called "thebat.ipc??.

Not unless / until you have commands to send to TB from the outside.

R> and can this function be turned off?

No. But then checking a file once every 10 seconds is not a
particularly heavy overhead. Unless you're running from a floppy
drive.

R> is it a needed function?

Yes.

R> i don't understand the purpose of it.

I hope that helps clear it up a bit for you.
