Hi

I had posted at some length about my frustrations with version 2
because messages I was writing on one of my accounts to several
mailing lists were being sent in Base64. There had been some question
raised at various points as to whether this was actually occurring. I
had some extended offlist correspondence with Marck and Allie to try
and figure this all out.

In short, I really was sending messages in Base64 and a few lists I
was on didn't really handle that very well. We never really worked
out *why* this was happening, but did fix the problem. The key was
that I subscribed to one of the mailing lists in question from another
account (this one actually) and was able to post without incident.

Finally, Marck suggested that perhaps something was corrupted in the
offending account and suggested deleting that account. I preserved
the mail folders, but deleted the account. To avoid any potential
problems I deleted everything including all of my filters and
templates for that account (which hurt since it was my main account).

I then deleted all of the account files and recreated the account and
moved the mail folders back into the account, recreating the mail
folders and filters. (I'm still working on the templates).

The good news is that my problem is solved and I can now post without
incident.

On another note, a comment about other mail programs. I looked at
many alternatives actually installing and trying Becky, Pegagus,
Thunderbird, Pocomail and Eudora. The only one that tempted me at all
was Pocomail. There are several things that I really do like about
Pocomail, some of which I like better than TB. That said, Pocomail is
rather slow when handling large volumes of mail and I think that would
have driven me nuts in the long run. However, I really do like the
Pocomail interface and some features.
