One of the things that I really liked about Becky Mail was its use of Profiles. For each account, you could set up multiple profiles, which include network settings. So switching from a default/LAN connection to dial-up is a simple matter of selecting one or the other. It's a quick, simple switch.
While it's easy to download mail from multiple accounts using dial-up, most dial-up ISPs don't allow any kind of relaying, so sending mail from a different account isn't possible. A lot of ISPs won't even let you send mail with a From address that isn't "theirs" (Verizon, for instance). Luckily, the dial-up service I use when traveling (Joi Internet) allows me to set a From address as long as I provide the correct login info in the SMTP settings. (how things should be, IMO.) Anyway, with Becky, switching over to the dial-up account was really easy. I'm wondering how people handle this kind of thing with The Bat. Or is something like profiles planned for a future release? The work-around I am considering is to create another separate account (called "dial-up" for instance) so when I'm traveling and using a dial-up, when I want to reply I can use a Quick Template that sends from this account. This account would be used just for SMTP sending when I'm connected via dial-up. Sound good? Or are there pitfalls I haven't considered? There aren't any hidden macros that would allow me to change SMTP servers on the fly with a Quick Template, are there? -- Ken Green Using The Bat! v2.02.3 CE on Windows 2000 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 3 ________________________________________________ Current version is 2.02.3 CE | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
