That's what I have been doing. The advantage of the tab is that I see
all the folders that contain unread messages - when the folder list
shows all folders there are, it would involve a lot of scrolling. So,
hitting crtl-] is a matter of "surprise, what folder will be opened
next?" kind of thing. The unread tab gives me control over which
folder I want to open first.

That may be your choice, but it is not mine.

I cannot follow you. It is an ooption, yes it is. But you want to use
it anyway. And say later on that the feature is redundant. But you
don't want to use the option to turn it off. Hm?

JR> I just think the concept of a tab that represents folders that have
JR> un-read msgs within them is silly since they are clearly visible.

That's the whole point: They are *not* visible when the whole
account/folder tree is shown. I have a feeling you get your whole
tress onto the screeen; over here, the tree is about three
screen-heights long, and I have to scroll all the time. The tabs help
me a lot here. Nothing silly about it.

I see a whole screen-height of folders with only read messages, but
the bat is flying. So I have to scroll down and find three folders
with unread messages. If I use the Unread tab, I would indeed "just
look". Without it, I scroll up and down continually (after each
mail-check, to be precise).

No, it is redundant for you because you don't have many folders.
Switch the option off, you don't need it. For those of us who do have
a lot of folders (across several accounts) it is a *very* useful
feature, IMHO.
