Not if you want to quote something from an earlier message, yet begin
a new thread.

The content of this discussion began in an effort to come to a
compromise among tbot subscribers as to how to keep threads from
"wandering" and additionally becoming longer than was comfortable for
some of tbot's members.

The work-arounds were feeling quite clumsy to some of the more
long-winded, freewheeling posters, of which I was one.

Then Greg Strong posted this solution. And he felt so strongly about
it that he sent it to tbudl and tbbeta also. (I know that because I'm
subscribed to both those lists, also.)

I've been using Greg's solution on tbot--where we don't actually have
such stringent rules as on tbudl, and where more visiting and banter
go on.

It's an easier way for me to continue the conversation and use The
Bat!'s wonderful quoting capability--and yet not disturb those who
depend strongly on its threading capability to keep up with what's
being said and who want threads shorter and subject lines more
relevant.
