Hello Greg! On Saturday, July 03, 2004, 10:18 PM, you wrote:

Confession: the pun was at first unconscious on my part, Greg--I wouldn't have intentionally made a play on your name--but I spotted it the minute I'd sent the post. Thought the best thing was to let it ride. I'm so glad you didn't take offence. :) GS> ...I do use threading and don't read all messages. For instance, it was important to me to respond to your comment about the pun. But that doesn't relate to the subject. Yet, the main part of what I wanted to say, although it's the shorter part in words, is subject-relevant. GS> ... If conversation changes, then I might mark messages read that GS> I may have wanted to read, but didn't know it. Hope that makes GS> sense! Yes, it does. But, it would have felt as if I were tearing our exchange of ideas apart, making what I said back to you stiff and stilted, and additionally, requiring background explanation, if I had sent a new thread about my accidental pun, and responded only to your last two or three sentences on this thread. As I said earlier, I think the different styles of using threading (or, as in my case, no threading) require patience and much practice in the art of compromise. But, thanks to you, I believe I have the mechanics of changing the thread when I think a change would benefit those posting to it (including myself!) down pat. That is, I believe the easy, quick mechanical routine is almost automatic for me now. CCing to tbot, because here I feel equally challenged about deciding how far off topic I may be straying in this reply. -- Best regards, Mary :Mary: The Bat! 2.11.02 on Windows XP 5.1 2600 Service Pack 1 ________________________________________________ Current version is 2.11.02 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
