I've been absent from the list for a while and have just taken the time to read some posts - this being the first. I have to agree with Mica's comment above. I haven't bothered in my personal emails, but in my line of work (IT) I deal a lot with people in other timezones. To this end I always put the following on my footer: GMT +13:00 I don't see the point of making any reference to what time it is *now* in anyone's timezone. I'm telling you I am at GMT + 13. When/if that matters to anyone, they can figure out whether to call me. This reminds me of a really simple system that Acorn Computers used in their RISC OS product. The system clock and ALL timestamps (i.e. on files etc) were in UTC. Period. The smart bit was that whenever the OS displayed a time, it adjusted it according to a UTC offset system value. If the user had to enter a time, you would subtract the offset and store it as UTC. That way, all you ever had to do was keep your own offset correct, and keep your clock accurate to the minutes. You could send files all around the world and everyone could tell exactly how many hours and minutes old it was without needing to know what timezone the file originated from. -- Cheers, Allister :flag-newzealand: New Zealand / Aotearoa ________________________________________________ Current version is 3.0.1.33 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
